The Latest

Hi Friends,
The neurosurgery team discussed my case today in Halifax and the current plan is to
continue and finish the chemotherapy program. This includes chemo 5 days a month
for another 5 months. As they suggest, so I do.
I've recently become aware of another problem that I have that actually is worse
than a brain tumour. I have terminal Maple Leafitis. There is no treatment for this. The
treating physicians have suggested that I become a Montreal Canadiens fan. This would be a
situation where the treatment is worse than the disease. Certainly this is not an uncommon
problem. If any of you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated.
Love,
Pam and Barry

Living in Rochester, Minnesota, for the moment, I didn't hear your news until recently. My feelings are of sympathy for your suffering and admiration for the spirit with which you are facing your illness. I will be thinking of you.

Dear Barry and Pam,
You are both in our thoughts and prayers. We know that you will continue to live your life to the fullest, as you always have. You are surrounded by those who love you, as well as an army of people who are with you in spirit. Draw on our combined strength whenever you need it.
As far as the Maple Leafitis goes, we can't advocate our course of treatment, since we are season-ticket sufferers in the "Hub of Hockey" here in Boston. As a Lenten penance, we went to the last game of the season on Saturday. Paul's sacrifice of his pre-game Manhattan was less painful. At least we have the Red Sox!
Take care of each other, and know that we are all holding you in our hearts.

Barry,
You're so funny. Your sense of humour and wit- I'm sure is what my dad loved about you. He always told us the "Barry stories" and God he used to laugh! The TOWN BICYCLE one was one of his favorites....let your imagination run, I'm sure you will remember it. Anyway, keep your spirits up, you just never know. Remember, have no regrets. You are always in ours thoughts.

Barry and Pam;

Have been away from computer for a few days so just got the bad news. We will all be pulling for the chemo. As for your Maple Leafitis, I can't believe that I knew you for so many years and never knew that flaw in your character. You and Fran and Colin at Sports Centre Physio have been so deluded for so long.I jumped ship once they traded Rick Vaive!
So happy that you both are living life to the utmost whatever the future brings.
Barry, you know you're my favorite, but craziest, orthopod ever, and I'm hanging in there for a miracle.
Thinking of you both always,
Janet Rogers

Hey Barry,
I've been following your blog from the beginning, keeping a close eye on your progress. I know this latest bit of news was disappointing and discouraging. However, there's a saying "the greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it." Barry, a few years back, I took a young under priviledged hockey fan to Simmons to watch a ball hockey game one evening. After the game, I took him down to meet "piggy". Dave was more than willing to take the time to talk to this young fan. When we were leaving, Dave handed him his cynergy hockey stick, which made the young boy's eyes light up. I've been reading about what a great doctor you are and there's no doubt about that, but it's a real testament to you as a father that you raised such a fine young man(Jamie+ Suzie, included)
p.s. dad still tells stories about minor hockey road trips from 20 years ago in which you entertained.Take care, I will continue to pray for you and your family
