Phase II

Hi friends,

My chemotherapy and radiotherapy will begin in Halifax this coming Tuesday (the 12th). It's hard to describe the feeling that I have with regard to them. It's kind of like eagerly awaiting to get the crap beat out me. Seriosly though, I am very eager to start.

We will go over on Monday and we will be staying with Debbie and Joe Hyndman for the full 6 weeks. We are planning on coming home on weekends. In actual fact, Joe and Debbie are leaving to visit family in Africa on Dec. 18th for a month. So everybody is invited to their place for a big bash (the band is already booked). Don't let Joe know because he frets.

The chemotherapy consists of one pill per day, five days a week for six weeks (30 pills) for a cost of twenty five thousand dollars. Thank goodness for drug plans.

Nothing else to report. Pam and I are feeling well and looking forward to phase II.

Love to all,
Barry and Pam

While reading your post to Bates...

"Dis me Gampie?"

yes.

"Gampie Ling?"

Yes, this is a letter from Grampie and Pampie.

"No dat your Gampie, mommy."

No, he's not my Grampie.

"What bash, mommy? A bash in gampie's hair?"

A bash means a party. Grampie and Pampie are having a party.

"And Bates?"

Yes, you can go to their party.

"a party, a party, a party, a party...let's sing the party song...me take gampie's bloon?"

Yes you can bring the balloons... you took good care of them. What else do you want to say to Grampie and Pampie?

"Ummmmmmmmmmmmm...happy face...happy heart."

:-)

Sending you lots of love and strength,

Bates & Rachelle xoxo

Hello there! I saw your mother last night at Doug Robinson(our Mayor's) 70th birthday party last night and she talked to us about you. You don't know me but I thought I'd tell you that I will be praying for you during your chemotherapy. I am happy to see that you are keeping a positive attitude. Doctors and medecine are something that we all need to be thankful for. We had an orthopedic surgeon fix our 4 year old(at the time) daughter's broken arm and he did do a wonderful job!! May you experience peace among "all the crap" you experience during chemo, remembering that God's love is always there and that He is beside you and your family every step of
the way.
