Update from Jamie

Happy New Year, everyone. I know it's been a while since Dad posted, and I am sure many of you have been checking for an update. Last week Dad decided that he needed more help getting around and he moved to the palliative care unit at Prince Edward Home. He says the care is great and he is enjoying it . . .and still harassing nurses! Pam is also enjoying it, since it allows her to resume her role as wife, rather than primary caregiver. In addition to Suzie, who has spent a lot of time with Dad over the last few months, Dave and Jenn are visiting again this week and Grammy & Poppy and Dad's sister, Nancy, and her husband Gary are over from Parsboro today. He has had a lot of visitors and continues to tell his favorite jokes and stories. While he doesn't have a computer in his room, he sees all the posts on the blog from printed copies, so this is still a great way to send him a message or some words of encouragement. Thanks for checking in. We'll provide another update in a few days.

Thanks for the update Jamie, and hi Barry, and all the family, especially including your mum and dad and sister, along with Dave and Jen , and of course Suzie and Pam, who now have help.
I'm so glad you continue to be Barrie by harrasing nurses and such. You'll be yourself and have fun, and so will they. They are a remakable bunch of people and I know you recognize that.
Keep up the great fight doing whatever happens your way, and keep those nurses laughing. They deserve lots of laughs and enjoy those they get.
Thanks, and hugs to Jamie and Beth for keeping us up to date.
Hugs to Barry and Beth.

Jamie, thanks so much for the update. We always start missing PEI once the holidays are over, but this year we really wish we could be there!
Barry, today I was feeling a bit sorry for myself, because Megan went back to NYC after being home for more than a week. The house sure is quiet without her - even the dog is in a funk! Then I came up to the computer, and started rereading some of your blog entries - just what I needed to remind me to count my blessings and enjoy today! You will probably never know how many lives you've touched, just by the gift of being you. Thanks for giving me a much needed wake-up call. I feel better already!
To all of you - our thoughts, prayers, and hugs. Love to you all.

Hi Barry and Pam
Thinking about both of you - we've been so inspired by your amazing attitude and outlook on life. Thank you for sharing with us what is really important - love, hugs, making the most of every day.
Barry, I still laugh when I look at the pictures of you, feelin' no pain, riding horseback up MacMillan Cres. at our PEI stampede party, singing "Happy Trails" - you always went the extra mile for a good laugh and a good time.
Sending hugs from afar to you both.

Barry,
I really hope you have some idea of the amazing effect your words have had on all of your friends. You are a person whose skill is professionally respected and company is personally enjoyed. More importantly, you have forced us to re-examine our lives and re-focus on what is truly important..family and friends. You made us realize that a minute of time should never be wasted, a brief moment with a friend should never be taken for granted and the ordinary can be extraordinary, if you let it.
Thank You!

I belive in angels..
that they're always hovering near,
Whispering encouragement
whenever clouds appear,
Protecting us from danger
and showing us the way,
Performing little miracles
within our lives each day..
Yes I believe in angels,
and I'm sure that you do, too,
And I'm convinced that angels
are watching over you.

Love and hugs to all the Ling family, especially my dear Dr. Barry.

Hi Barry
Sorry to hear that you are now in hospital. You,however, will be having a blast torturing the nurses. If everyone had your courage and sense of humor ,we would live in a wonderful world. You are truly an inspiration to anyone who follows your blog and continually remind us of the importance of family and friends. Thinking and praying for you and your family.

Hi Guys

Our thoughts are with all of you during these extremely trying times. I am sure Barry is still keeping all those involved with his care, well entertained. Hang in there in big guy. Your name came up a number of times over the holidays and our family and visiting friends wish you the best.

Thanks to your contacts, George's back is healthy and he thinks he can take me in golf again. For me that is unfortunate, because the only two guys in the world that I can beat in golf are George and Posty. Now it will only be Posty!!

Hugs from all of us to all of you.

Happy New Year to you Dr. Barry and all the Ling Family. I just feel as if I was taken a tremendous journey with you and your family during your illness. The love, the hugs and all the humor has given other people great inspiration in their lives and also a will to become better people. There is not so much bad in any human that underneath there is some good and therefore maybe we should look at all fellow man a little different. Thanks for sharing this blog and your journey with us all it will never be forgotten. Hugs and more hugs to you and yours. You will always be in our prayers. Sharon MacF

It was really great to see you both over the holidays. I think of you both every day, and continue to check for updates. If there is anything at all that I can do, I'd be more than happy to put my arse on a plane. Big big (huge, paint-covered 'n smelly) hugs from Montreal.
Love you,
